Mausnahmezustand refers to the use of the word Maus (mouse) as an affectionate yet casual form of address for friends or partners, regardless of gender identity or relationship context. It reflects a non-binary, more inclusive form of language. Mice have always been present in illustration, drawing, and film, but through this linguistic layer they gain new relevance. They invite us to identify with them — or to see ourselves as one of them.
